Wilson Elementary School Programs
Wilson Elementary School is committed to helping every student maximize his or her academic potential.
By providing opportunities for students to receive a learning experience tailored to their abilities, Wilson Elementary School helps instill confidence and a love of learning at an early age.
We offer a number of specialists and enrichment programs to help each student achieve to his or her highest potential:
- Resource Specialist Class
The Resource Specialist Program (RSP) is a Special Education service. While they in the program, the resource specialist gives children additional support and instruction. To be eligible for this program, students must have a demonstrated learning disability which makes it difficult for them to achieve their potential. These students may need assistance in developing perceptual skills, organizational skills, and/or auditory skills. With additional support and guidance, these students should be able to overcome their obstacles and compensate with other methods of learning. Resource Specialist services are delivered both in the regular classroom and in the RSP classroom. - Special Day Class
The Special Day Class (SDC) is another Special Education Service. Students with more severe learning disabilities are served in the special day class by a specially credentialed teacher, for the majority of their school day. Most students are “mainstreamed” for portions of the school day in regular education classes, with the on-going regular support of the special day class teacher. These students are not necessarily learning grade-level appropriate material, and need a wide range of program modifications and instructional support to be successful. - SPEECH THERAPY
The speech therapist serves children with problems with articulation, dysflu-ency, voice, language concepts, auditory discrimination and syntax (grammar). Children with speech and language disabilities are served in small groups or one-on-one. The speech therapist also screens students in Kindergarten and first grades for speech and language problems. Any child new to the school and any child referred by a teacher or parent can also be screened. Every child in the program receives a yearly battery of tests to rule out other problems and to determine progress toward goals on the Individual Education Program. - School Psychologist
The school psychologist coordinates the psycho-educational assessments that must be conducted to determine if a child is eligible for special education serv-ices. In addition to giving cognitive exams, the school psychologist also adminis-ters assessments of visual and auditory processing, visual motor processing, and social-emotional functioning.
We welcome feedback on any of our programs. Please contact us if you have questions, comments or suggestions on how we could better help your child.
